Bad PE day [I Remember Physical Education In Vest And Pants]

In year 7 I used to have swimming lessons on Wednesday morning and indoor PE in the afternoon. I hated getting changed and having wet hair for the rest of the day, so one week I decided to leave my swimming costume at home. The teacher was not impressed and told me to swim in my t-shirt and shorts. So I still had wet hair and in the afternoon I had to do gymnastics in my underpants as I had no dry kit to change into 😞

I can imagine how bad shorts and tee shirt were for swimming in - I can only hope your shorts were well elasticated and also nice and tight fitting!

I think, though you may well not agree, that you were quite lucky in your gymnastics lesson that afternoon. My school would never have allowed a uniform jumper to be worn, so in year 7 you’d have been doing it dressed only in your underpants!

@lcclinton4 I think the teacher felt sorry for me and I was quite cold at that stage 😕 I got teased about it for months after 😥

@QuietSophie yes, it was pretty embarrassing at age 12. I was still flat chested but not all girls in my class were. And I reacted to the cold air, if you know what I mean!

@lcclinton4 I do 🙂 I was flat chested and still am, but I would have hated to have gone around with no top on. I was pulling my jumper down so you couldn't see my pants and it got a bit out of shape 😕

Did you have regulation knickers at your school?

@QuietSophie not regulation knickers as such but we had to wear plain white full briefs under our uniform. Vests and bras had to be plain white too. In was used to doing PE in just my pants from my junior school, so it wasn’t as bad for me as it was for some other girls in my class.

@lcclinton4 Did anyone make a fuss about having to do PE in their pants? I suppose it isn't so bad if all the girls are dressed like that. All our underwear had to be plain white as well. Boring 😩

@QuietSophie I don’t remember anyone making a fuss, certainly not to our teachers. We all did PE in our pants early on in our time at school, occasionally if we had PE when it wasn’t timetabled, or when we forgot our kit. So everyone had experience of it, so we all understood how people felt.’

@lcclinton4 I'm glad there was understanding. When I had to take part in my knickers I got teased dreadfully, which was unkind because it could have happened to any of us 😟
