A Day with the Fire and Rescue Department
Spent some time with the Fire and Rescue Department earlier today, and it gave me an even deeper appreciation for what firefighters do. I have always known their job is tough, but experiencing a tiny part of their training is a whole different story.
The fire hose alone weighs about 20kg. And I weigh 49kg. They had us run with it, different ways of carrying it, unfold it, and then roll it back neatly.
I thought running with the 20kg hose would be the hardest part. But folding it back under the blazing sun nearly took half my life! We had to stay bent over while rolling the hose properly, and trust me, that wasn’t easy. I was questioning all my life choices at this point 😆
Also, we were doing all this in plain clothes. I can’t imagine doing it in their heavy uniform, boots, helmet and then facing an actual fire.
The government really needs to give our firefighters a huge pay raise. They put their bodies on the line every single day to keep the rest of us safe. I will forever be proud of them and grateful for everything they do 🚒❤
