Anyone else notice

That we never have conversations about civics anymore?

It's weird since civics is supposedly a huge part of politics and government, but we have seemed to have completely forgotten it's a thing.

I would be afraid that even an attempt at a civil neutral discussion about roles and how government operates would slide into the same vitriolic tribalism that infects everything else. The well has been irreversibly poisoned, in my opinion.

@FoxyQueen Yeah. The copper pipes were stripped out long ago.

I think people who prefer civil discussion are so put off by it all that they’ve just retreated to the sidelines to focus on other, enjoyable aspects of life. I know that’s been my position for awhile. This thread right here is the closest I’ve gotten to touching that third rail in a very long time.

@FoxyQueen I remember when conspiracy theorists were considered wacko’s, but now those ideas are considered mainstream while facts and empirical evidence and data are thrown aside in favor of the baseless opinions of those conspiracy theorists now. It’s hard to have that discussion if there’s no longer agreement on basic facts.
Yes, but we have new a kind of politicians, who hedge all of their bets on populism and emotions, which happen to forget how it is to be human and thrive on raw emotion, basic instinct, and it's after-all pathetic, because we all know we need a conversation together to even try to 'pretend' to understand each other. It's actually telling how our social fabric is falling apart and we now elect pandering politicians because our moral compass has become self centered

@awildsheepschase We've been chasing moral panics since at least the 60's and that has been how our government has operated since, even if those moral panics have no basis in reality.
@FoxyQueen I'm not sure woman's rights, reproductive rights, or even basic civility is moral panic. It is on one hand, and maybe this time now is the opposite wing in pendulum, but I can't wait until the meter shifts once again. This is the hemorrhaging of those once values as being dignity, values, and rights into a void of those angry with a mob mentality.
It's part of the plan. If people don't know how democracy is supposed to work, they won't notice when it's being broken down.
