I personally find cash annoying so whilst I approve of society moving towards a less cash dependent society, I still feel we need cash around.
Most elderly in Singapore still need cash and it might be considered ageist to deprive them of a convenient way to make purchases.
Cash is also necessary in case of emergencies like say your phone goes dead or you lose your wallet and you need to make payment etc.
Until we manage to solve and all issues with abandoning cash, it will be around for a very long time to come.

@Longpatrol There is a growing movement in the uk ( in the areas I travel to) to boycott places that don’t accept cash .

@devonman I wonder what the average value of purchases is like in those kind of shops that don't accept cash. I presume quite high.

@Longpatrol it is bars and coffee shops that annoy people .
While I hate rudeness to retail staff , it does cause bad feeling .

I hope not.
Otherwise, how do we cope when hurricanes, earthquakes and other natural disasters take out the substations and powerlines?
WIth no electricity, the whole economic system crashes and no one can get their most basic necessities.
It's worth using cash regularly just to ensure that trade can keep going in emergencies.

Eventually.. they are moving to a cashless society so they can control and monitor everything

Each time they've done this the population figures out their own trading system.
If they do they'll probably end most of their power.

Genuine silver coins might keep their value but I don't much care since I'm usually broke, nothing to exchange

Most likely as the new world order cannot track us and have control of us if we use cash.
