Highly paid is relative, the tourism income from having a constitutional monarchy is believed to easily offset the civil list which taxpayers meet. Much of Royal wealth comes from land ownership which many wealthy people in the UK also benefit from.

Value for money is maybe more relevant and it appears that they are net contributors to the economy via tourism rather than a cost. That is in contrast to highly paid public service bosses whose contribution is more difficult to ascertain.

@meJess I hadn't thought of that aspect. So they are like Disney World!!!
Hasmita · M
@meJess Where are my highly paid relatives 🙂
meJess · F
@Hasmita they were always a flight risk

No not anymore
When i was young I liked Princess Diana.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
I didn't realize the importance of their role until I saw a tv series about the Norwegian Princess during the world war. When Norway was all in crumbles cause of German air force, forcing the royals to escape and hide in US. The citizen of Norway was just waiting for the King to return. And when he did it brought so much hope for a new Norway.
BeJeweled · F
No. I dont admire the royals like I used to after learning about the back stabbing they do to their own family. It would be horrible living like that. Glad Harry escaped it!
akindheart · 61-69, F
i am going to watch if I remember when it is. but after the Harry Meghan scandal, I look at the royal family and what they do with jaded eyes. It is horrible what has come out
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
No. The US is a small letter r republic. Royalty is a holdover from the distant past.
SW-User
@Crazywaterspring Maybe...

However, the US still has its own hereditary privilege. It's everywhere, from the Kennedys downwards. Just look at how most of America's elite universities give preference to "legacies"...
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I will watch it. It's not a thing that happens often.
firefall · 61-69, M
@JimboSaturn LOL first time in, what, 70 years?
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@firefall Yep 1953.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
No but I am in the USA. They aren’t just highly paid symbols with no power. They were running a huge firm that gave them a lot of power over other nations. Read about SERCO and what all it was involved in. Prince William is the head of SERCO, and that’s just one of their companies.
SW-User
@cherokeepatti I'll check that out, thanks.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User You’ll go down a rabbit hole if you dig deep enough on this. They were running a blackmail scheme on powerful people including CEO’s. Had security cams and other things that collected the evidence to do it.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Not especially, but as it seems to bring a lot of people in this country great pleasure that is of interest to me 🙂

If everyone could take heed of the King's message about public service and pick up five pieces of litter next Monday that would be a truly awesome example of 'soft' power 👍
Dolimyte · 41-45, M
I could not care less.
Sterler45 · 36-40, M
Personally I believe in an elected head of state. I appreciate there is a lot of admiration and fondness for them especially in the UK, but for me they are a relic of the past and don’t represent the people of this country.
No and the decoratives they try to sell at every store are ridiculous ,cheaply made and a waste of resources , just for capitalists to capitalize more. Its almost a mockery lol like chile
SW-User
As Frankie Boyle said: They're nothing but a slightly dim German family to whom we have inexplicably given billions of pounds.
SW-User
I'm not. I'll watch it because it's not every day a British monarch gets crowned, but once the crown is on, that's it, I'm out.
We're all aware that royalty evolved into the caste system we're suffering from now under capitalism. It's revolution time again.
MrEagle · 41-45, M
Since I didn’t know it was happening, I’d say no.

Queen Elizabeth was cool. Followed by Claire Foy.
SW-User
Not much interested. I won't watch the event. But not "anti-royal" as such, simply a lack of interest.
Nah don’t really care, but I do watch from time to time for interest sake.
Lilymoon · F
No... I liked Princess Diana but now I could care less tbh.
SW-User
@Lilymoon same here
SW-User
YES. I just bought a pair of coronation earrings for a fiver
Sutten · 36-40, F
I just like to see the fashion - clothes they wear.
Fairydust · F
Not anymore, King Charles supports the WEF.
SW-User
I just like wearing fancy hats
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
I don't even watch inaugurations for the president of my own country. Watching it for some other country seems rather pointless to me.
