I heard someone suggesting a change to education where the student learns at their own pace, and graduates when ready to move on to work or a university education. They also learn skills relevant to their choice of career.

I can think cons is young people will be leaving school without the needed maturity.

A pro is it'll help teachers focus on teaching kids skills that'll help them.

I think elementary students should be taught reading, writing, mathematics, history, and science just until they find out where they thrive. Once they enter high school, I think they should definitely take the classes that they will most likely use in a future career. I don't think testing should be taken away. In the United States, testing was basically requested by the people. They were tired of some states not having the same education as others, so those people could not move to another state and compete for jobs. Now, they complain about testing. I don't think it should be so important, but I do think it should be required to make sure everyone has the same opportunities. I like the idea of working at their own pace. I know my son just finished pre-k and he passed the kindergarten test by 200 points. I wish he could go ahead and start learning first grade material because I know he will be bored with school next year. When some kids are bored, they act out which interrupts the class so the other students can't learn as well.

They should at least be required to be in school unt 18 but learning at their own pace. The emphasis on tests should be taken away and a demonstration of understanding with no help from others presented. They would additionally benefit from directly presenting their demonstration to their class. But in the ghetto something like this might not work so well.
I did this! and look how well I turned out!

Really? I was thinking we run the risk of people graduating about the same time they are eligible for Medicare. But, as always, I could be wrong.

Really. Australia's isn't too bad with trade schools, it's just really expensive unless the government subsidies it

The current United States education system could hardly be worse. Trade school is underutilized as it is.
