Forced Public Education?

I am pro public education and against private, especially Christian schools. Our society needs a large population of well rounded and truly intelligent kids to take over one day. Your thoughts?

I’m pro public education too, because I think everyone should have access to a formal education, regardless of their economic status. But having said that, it’s a reality that many public schools are allowed to deteriorate because they’re perceived as having less value and status than private ones.

It’s a vicious circle; less status, less money, so fewer resources. The parents who can afford to send their children to schools with better resources and facilities do. And, alas you can’t blame them for that. Like in many situations, it’s about funding. 😠

@bijouxbroussard In the public school system in New York City and State the Public School Teachers are civil Service Employees. Because of the union, after a teacher gets tenure, it is almost impossible to get rid of them. No matter how bad they are. With u ion protection the bad teachers are given the same pay increase as the good teachers.
If there was a merit system then a teacher would be rewarded for good work and penalized for poor results.

@Tonyjf50 New York ranks 8th out of all US States.

@Burnley123 @Burnley123 well thank you for backing up my argument. If new york is 8 th on the list, and me graduating in the top tier of the class . Then being forced to take remedial classes my Freshman year , just to get to grade level, What does that tell you. None of the private school kids were taking remedial classes , they were on or above grade level. The answer is my new york public school education was not as good as private school. It caused me to struggle to graduate college.

@Tonyjf50 Obviously private schools are better funded but not everyone can afford that. In spite of this, many people do well in the public system.

@Burnley123 So you don't settle for less. You bring the public school up to the same standard. Base pay raises on teacher performance, give pay incentives to teachers who's classes exceed what is normally accepted for a school. Hold teachers who's classes don't reach the accepted standard accountable.

@Tonyjf50 Why would I disagree with any of that? Read my long post on here, if you want to know my views
