Adjusting to college

It's my second night at college as a freshman, and I've been experiencing some things. Just wondering if it's normal.

- Even though I slept a lot over the summer, I slept at around 1:30 am last night and woke up at 5 am. I had trouble going back to sleep even though I felt very tired.

- While I don't necessarily miss my family, it sometimes gives me discomfort knowing I won't be back home for a while, especially when it's night time and dark or quiet.

- There are a lot of events in college to meet people and big group gatherings, but I'm finding them exhausting and don't feel like I'm able to connect with people or really make friends yet.

Is this normal, and will it get better when classes start and as time goes on?

Yep. Entirely normal for a major adjustment in your living arrangements, and most likely your first time away from home/family. , Which is why most colleges have a built in orientation buffer before classes start. Just relax, be yourself. You will settle in and be comfortable before you know it.
