On The Topic Of Intelligence... 🧠

A lot of people seem to highly value intelligence. And, I admit, I enjoy talking and doing things with very intelligent people.

However, I submit, intelligence is a stand-alone commodity, and has nothing to do with character or intention.

Ex: I'm certain a serial killer will do a much better job of serial killing with high intelligence than with low.

I would much rather spend time with someone of average, or even lower intelligence who is kind, compassionate and loving, than with someone of very high intelligence who's an asshole.

Truth. Plus, I’ve been around a lot of highly intellectual people who are arrogant or think they are better than me.
@Carissimi There's also cognitive intelligence vs emotional intelligence.

@Carissimi Diploma Dumbos

Being an intellectual has as little to do with being intelligent as being a sportswriter has to do with being athletic.

Isn’t that the same point I made? @TheSageofMainStreet

Well, a lot of people are a-holes, now and then. I can certainly understand wanting to avoid someone who's like that all the time.

My brother is far more intelligent than I ever thought to be, and fortunately he has changed for the better. He used to enjoy lecturing in a very pedantic sort of voice. Since he has retired, he is a lot more fun, and more relaxed.

University faculties teem with high IQ fools. 🤫

@Thinkerbell intelligence and education hardly equals wisdom

Often mutually exclusive
@Slade Very good point.
Very interesting conversation. Intelligence as it's usually understood, as cognitive or analytical ability, benefits the world far less than compassion, courage, and devotion to fellow human beings. But I really enjoy intellect, especially in my friends. I think that intellect--especially the love of reading, writing, and reflecting--gets a bad rap.
