No. It never existed when I learnt to read and write. I doubt mny education suffered from the lack of it!

Oh yeah before Hooked On Phonics was a thing. That teacher was a marketing genius that came up with it. She made enough money that she retired from teaching Unfortunately it was a few years too late for me to get it for my daughter. I tried my best to find phonics books that I could use for my daughter before she even started kindergarten and to no avail. Phonics made it easy for me to learn to read when I was in first grade.
