Is it time to update the lesson plan? Books written in 1950s still taught in 2024!

To kill a mockingbird written in the 1950s is still core curriculum in 2024. Inspires an outdated worldview. Wtf.

It's a classic of English language literature.

@DDonde yes and it perpetuates and antiquated worldview. Is it any wonder society takes so long to move forward?

@jehova I'm not sure I agree, but I also am not sure of what worldview you're referring to.

@DDonde racism and bigotry taught as modern. Poor figurative english taught as relevant. Shakespeare as an example.

@jehova I think it's more about teaching our cultural heritage. And I would say that TKAM is taught as a historical piece but also the story and moral of the book is timeless and still relevant.

@DDonde and i disagree; though you arent "wrong". The internet changed the game the lesson in tkmb has mostly aged out but the teachers havent? Schools simply dont have money to buy new material. And parents want to have read the things their kids are reading so they dont have to read anything new (life is too busy to allow parental review).
