Music homework
Right now my daughter is in her room singing 'Fools Rush In'. Quite well actually. She has a very unique music teacher who, faced with the challenge of engaging a class of mixed abilities and levels of interest, has decided to effectively ditch the curriculum in favour of adopting a piece of music each week that the students are asked to learn inside out and research facts about the composer/performer, cultural background, etc. Then in the next lesson they might perform it as a class, do solos, instrumentalise songs, improvise, sing a classical song in a blues style . .
She's quite lucky to have music at all in a state comprehensive and I love how enthused she is by her classes. She wants to do GCSE (the standard level school exam in the UK) for the next two years. My feeling is that her teacher is a semitone away from being dismissed for his unconventional teaching style and there may not be too much focus on the actual course material, but I'm certainly not going to dissuade her 馃幍
