I finished teaching my 5-week ESL class last night.
My students brought different desserts, & I made my candied almonds & pecans, which were a hit. After I taught for an hour, we enjoyed ourselves by eating, dancing to Latin music, & then they presented me with gifts. I got flowers, a Starbucks gift card, soap from Italy & $320 cash. I was blown away by their generosity. I’ll miss them. 💖
And they will miss you too... teachers, the best ones, which it appears you are, are never forgotten by their students. It takes a heart full of love to do what you do and I admire you.
@Ontheroad Thank you ☺️ I have students who follow me to classes I teach as long as it’s appropriate for their level. I have 5 previous who have enrolled for my next class, which is a low intermediate class. Normally I teach low beginning. The other students I’ve taught would have enrolled in this class as well, but they’re not ready for it yet.
I’m glad I leave a lasting impression on them. That’s the reason I got hired at my current community college. 😇
@marsbar I had a teacher at a community college that you remind me of - he taught from the heart and seemed to make it all fun. Also My 2nd grade teacher, she was a jewel of a person and and I never heard of a single student of hers that didn't love her to pieces. No matter what subject you were struggling with, she somehow made the time to help each student get through it. Teachers are special people.
@marsbar I'm sure you're a great teacher who always treats the students respectfully. That would tend to discourage anyone from being disrespectful to you or giving you attitude.
@Rutterman I’m genuine with my students, & it helps to build a rapport with them. They also see how passionate I am when I teach, & they know that I do care about them & how much they learn from my classes.
@scabs There are definitely people who can learn on their own if they are motivated and dedicated enough. But a classroom experience is far different than trying to teach yourself at home.
