Volunteered to teach some 5th graders how to code today

And now I'm questioning my career choice. That was the most fulfilling 5 hours I've spent in a long time, and honestly, if possible I would've continued for the whole day. At least for a start I'm going to keep going back- when we finished the lesson some of the kids were saying I was the best teacher they'd had and before he was leaving, one of them held my arm and asked if I was going to come back. Melted my heart. I definitely have to be there again.

How long before they're breaking into security systems?
justanothername · 51-55, M
@Harriet03 Or building smart phone apps

What code were you using?
somedude15 · 22-25, M
@justanothername starting with scratch and planning to progress to real code like python after.

@somedude15 scratch is a very good base to build. Swift would be another good code to learn.
What a great day! Some dreams you have to chase.

Congrats! That's a major win for everyone.

That’s wonderful. Both that you volunteered and that you enjoyed it. Most places need good teachers. Hope you get the opportunity again, and maybe do it for a living.

@bijouxbroussard I think with my job, I might have the chance to work with schools but hopefully I get to put more time into this
