Is college financially impossible for many young people?

There are options though, My kids were thinking about going to this private Christian college next fall, but after we looked at the tuition for it, they are thinking about going to a local community college for at least a year, which would be much cheaper. I understand that college is not for everyone. You don't really need a college degree to be successful, depending on the career path that you desire to take.

I recommend the community college for one or two years. My daughter did that and went on to graduate at the top of her class in a major college.

I'd suggest going to a community college for 2 years. Get the basics out of the way. Make sure that they stay in contact with an academic advisor EVERY SEMESTER so that they are only taking classes that will transfer to university. That's what I did. Graduated with no problem. You can also do payment plans. I wish I had known that when i was in CC, I thought the only way to pay was to pay in full or financial aid or scholarships...which I didn't receive until university level.
You can work, get the GI Bill, they used to have grants and loans.
I thought Joe was going to help...

For many, yes. Maybe not impossible, but very hard in some circumstances.
@Piper My family wasn't dirt poor, but we didn't have a lot of money either. Luckily I only lived about 10 minutes from one of the cheapest universities in the city of Chicago, and probably the state of Illinois.

If they have decent grades, not necessarily the best, Christian colleges offer scholarships that cover about half the cost of attending.

Depending on what they plan on studying, it may however not be a bad idea for them to do their entire lower-level classes (first two years) at a community college. Classes are typically much smaller and in the lower-level, they're doing cookie cutter stuff.

Navy Campus was my gig from 1981-1987.
Finished my undergrad while serving.

There are affordable colleges out there, and once you understand that they all teach the same stuff and companies just like to see a degree, you can save some serious cash.

If they have kids themselves and a shitty support system it can be extremely difficult but not impossible

Without kids it’s a cake walk

I just went to local colleges. I didn't want to out a loan. Ironically I don't even use my degrees. I started a business and never looked back.
