The answer is a lie because 1/3 is 0.333333333333333333 and it keeps going so really 1/3+1/3+1/3 really adds up to 0.999999999999 but "technically" somewhere there is a "4" added to one of the 1/3s so it's 1

@FurryFace: if I split 1 piece of pizza into 3 parts and I keep on splitting it? Would it repeat and explain the repeating decimals?

@FurryFace: what if I split 1 part into 3 parts and keep splitting the parts would it explain the repeating decimals my calculator is showing?

0.3333333.. (there's a bar you draw over the 3 to show it repeats to infinity)
Alabamian · 26-30, F
why it's repeating

If you step out of math and into real-world though, you have to account for unit types and what the 1 represents

@Tennessee4: because 1/3 in long division means you put a 0 after the 1 (which moves the answer into being a decimal) so you get 10/3 which is 3 with remainder 1. To divide that 1 you add a 0 and move over one more decimal place, so you get 10/3.. so the same thing happens to infinity
