Is Linguistics a career worth pursuing?

Of course, one must possess a certain level of enthusiasm for whatever career they choose for that career to prosper, of that I am certain. That aside, I want to know what you guys think about linguistics.

it would be a really cool major to study for, possible jobs might be at a university teaching linguistics, teaching english, teaching english in foreign countries. The pay might not more than 35000. You can live on that and if you like words and the study of language go for it. You may spend your life paying college debt though depending on tuition.

My personal opinon would be to avoid unless you have a passion for languages. You could potentially earn more as a translator in a single language.
