Measles cases are rising across the U.S., with major outbreaks in New York and Pennsylvania. CGTN’s Mike Walter speaks with Dr. Omer Awan, physician and senior public health contributor for Forbes, about what’s driving the surge and how to contain it.
My comments:
As you probably are aware, NY state has declared a Public Health Emergency for the recent outbreak in that state. Currently, there are 108 cases of measles that we know of in New York—most likely that number severely underestimates the true number of cases.
Good on Governor Kathy Hochul for this early and decisive declaration and for her call for all susceptible individuals to undergo vaccination with the MMR vaccine.
Every Governor in every state should be issuing similar declarations and calls for vaccination!
Do NOT listen to anti-vaxxers such as incompetent Robert F. Kennedy, Jr and anyone whom he appointed. Perhaps more than any other individual on this planet he IS responsible for the circumstances we find ourselves in and (make no mistake about this) measles outbreaks have only just begun and will rapidly get worse.
The BEST CHANCE we have to mitigate this evolving disaster is immediate vaccination with the MMR vaccine!
This should not be a political issue—vaccination is clearly safe, there is no association with autism whatsoever, it is inexpensive, and it is readily available!
Too many have already died or suffered but we are only beginning to see the very tip of the tip of the measles epidemic if people don’t wake up and take the necessary step of vaccination NOW!
