RFK Jr. lays off over 1,000 doctors and scientists amid shutdown

MSNBC’s Brandy Zadrozny reports that Health Secretary RFK Jr. fired more than 1,000 employees from the Department of Health and Human Services Friday night. The move comes as Trump’s health faces public scrutiny following his second routine medical appointment this year. Zadrozny discussed the developments on MSNBC’s The Weekend: Primetime.

They just don’t get and more incompetent, untrustworthy, or dishonest than Robert Junior. I guess that’s what endears him so to Demented Donnie!

In this video, Tim Shriver, PhD responds to RFK, Jr’s thoroughly debunked nonsense about a link between vaccines and autism.

Shriver is perhaps best known for his role as Chairman of the Special Olympics although he has many, many other professional accomplishments.

I believe he is somehow related to Kennedy, but I am not certain how closely.

@KunsanVeteran shriver might be his aunt.
@samueltyler2 I was thinking along those lines. I don’t believe he is a true “blood relative” but through marriage…

OMG, how much more destruction is he capable of?

I checked it out on Google:

There are no new, widespread Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) layoffs officially scheduled for today, October 17, 2025, but some federal agencies have recently started issuing layoff notices, according to NPR. A small number of HHS employees were mistakenly issued layoff notices earlier this week, but the notices were part of an ongoing process that began with a major restructuring announced in March.
The major restructuring plan announced in March 2025 by HHS included the eventual layoff of approximately 10,000 full-time employees.
This restructuring is intended to save taxpayer money and streamline the department by reducing workforce and consolidating divisions.
Layoffs have already impacted several agencies, including the FDA, CDC, and NIH, and some of the workers have been officially separated from their positions as of July 2025.
The process is ongoing and subject to legal challenges and changing court decisions, which may affect the timing or scope of the layoffs, notes this NPR article.

@KunsanVeteran i spent most of my medical career in preventive medicine. I ran free clinics to provide immunizations to anyone who wanted to come in, documented or not. I worked with CDC on several outbreaks, i was part of the team that developed protocols to deal with all cause disaster. What is happening in this country is a disgrace.
@samueltyler2 I cannot agree with you more. I am ashamed that so many of our colleagues aren’t saying and doing more!

Frankly I am shocked that so many in this country are so easily swayed to greed, bigotry, jealousy, lawlessness

I never thought I or my children or my children’s children would face this…

But here we are…
@samueltyler2 As we’re both know: immunizations aren’t swayed by immigration status. They are “DEI” by definition!

I'm actually happy about this! Canada has been openly soliciting professional medical talent that's currently in the USA, to come to Canada for a free ride and bring their scalpels with them!

There is a doctor shortage here in Canada and those American doctors have been coming across by the bus load since Trump took Office in 2024 and RFK Jr's latest debacle should make their decision to head north more appealing to those trained Physicians!

Good work, RFK Jr! Keep up the good work! Daddy would be proud that you came from his loins!

@KunsanVeteran
Oh yes, I was just as kind as kind gets! I seem to recall my own response being about the doctor shortage in Canada, so it was basically the same thing I just mentioned to you.
@swirlie I was just being a bit facetious…

😁

Well, you never know, I DO have my moments! 🫣
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr: Making Measles Great Again!

As of October 14, 2025, a total of 1,596 confirmed* measles cases were reported in the United States. Among these, 1,573 measles cases were reported by 42 jurisdictions: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York City, New York State, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. A total of 23 measles cases were reported among international visitors to the U.S.

There have been 44 outbreaks** reported in 2025, and 86% of confirmed cases (1,380 of 1,596) are outbreak-associated. For comparison, 16 outbreaks were reported during 2024 and 69% of cases (198 of 285) were outbreak-associated.

*CDC is aware of probable measles cases being reported by jurisdictions. However, the data on this page only includes confirmed cases jurisdictions have notified to CDC.
@KunsanVeteran And let that post sink in for a moment then remember:

Measles was considered eradicated in the United States in 2000!
So…the VA Hospitals won’t be providing the annual COVID shot to veterans per Doug Collins & RFK, Jr but how does tRUMP respond to that? Well, a picture is worth a thousand words:

The Dem Presidential candidate should say that all actions done by the orange traitor's team will be reversed the first week he is in office.
@Diotrephes That would just lead to even more unrest and distrust of our government.

The chainsaw approach (while tempting) must yield to the surgical scalpel with close attentions to the margins to remove even the faintest MAGA contamination.

However, as @samueltyler2 alluded to, there is a fair amount that could stand change/revision/upgrading/re-examing and that’s fine—but it must be validated with honest and thorough evidence & data—not paranoid fears & delusions.

@saragoodtimes I did the same. My mom died when I was 12, my dad when I was 18. How, why did he fall in love with medicine?
@samueltyler2 every boy has a dream and he worked hard to make his come true
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@saragoodtimes maybe, but most want to be a policemen, fireman, unless they have some experience, medicine is not that common. BTW here is a comment about doctor's cars in a classic book about medicine from the 1940s or 50s, don't drive a fancy expensive car because when you do, they will say, there goes my appendix.
