So after being told that the Covid vaccine is "gene therapy" multiple times, I decided to look up what gene therapy is
Gene therapy is a medical approach that treats or prevents disease by correcting the underlying genetic problem such as lever congenital amaurosis (a rare eye cancer), spinal muscular atrophy, other cancers such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Genome editing is being studied to:
-fix a genetic alteration underlying disorder, so the gene can function properly
-turn on a gene to help fight a disease
-turn off a gene that is functioning improperly
-remove a piece of DNA that is impairing gene function and causing disease
More research is being done to possibly treat or cure other inherited disorders; treat other cancers; or treat infections, including HIV/Aids.
Wouldn't that be amazing if the Covid vaccine was gene therapy though? Infectious diseases such as like HIV would be long gone.
