What's your tinnitus sound like?

I've had tinnitus as, long as I can remember.

Now I have bilateral Menieres Disease, left ear is most affected so that's an added issue.

I've three distinct sounds.

The high pitch whine which to me seems to about NNE from my forward view, high up just out of normal eyesight. That's reasonably quiet.

Then I've the very heavy static like noise. It's completely on my left side that varies from noisy to loud.

Lastly the jet roar, exactly like a big jet engine roaring right in my left ear. That varies from loud through really loud to utterly deafening. That's the one I really hate.

They are all there 24 hours a day, every day never stop.

What is yours like?

Mine is the old fashioned tinnitus caused by loud noises... gun and artillery fire. It's been with me since I was about 20 and hasn't changed much... maybe a bit louder and it's a constant hissing, static like sound overlaying a higher pitched, but softer ringing noise.

Makes it impossible to hear clearly, especially if someone talks softly or there is other noise like music, other people talking, etc. I routinely miss about 50-75% of what is said... all I hear is a mumble like sound and if the person speaks rapidly, forget about it.

I have 2 sounds. First sounds like a TV film where an explosion goes off and then all you can hear is a high pitched tone. This sounds all the time, mainly in my left ear, but is then drowned out by other noises.
Second is a constant whooshing sound in both ears. I sometimes struggle in situations where lots of people are talking at once (pubs and restaurants etc)

Too many rock/metal gigs attended over the years 🤘🏼

Steady high pitched on the right and a bit lower and slightly warbling on the left. I had it as a child and I'm sure playing in rock bands and going to clubs didn't help. About 5 years ago it stopped for about a half day...it was the strangest damn thing...and as below, yes people that speak softly or mumble drive me batty....

I have a whine high in pitch low on volume that I occasionally hear.

I'm sorry yours is so bad.

That sounds horrible. Sorry for you. I just thought because you wore hearing aids it was just that you can't hear well, I know I've seen you lip reading but I didn't realise you suffer this too.

*Hugs to you*

I'm lucky I have nothing.
not like the sustained blaring from a toy horn - more like the ear-piercing high-pitch whine of a tiny jet engine revving down
