I don't it's very annoying. But less stress, less coffee, and less noisy environments help.

Avoiding enclosed quiet spaces helps. Even a little background noise is more noticeable when you make it a habit to pay attention to every sound. The sense is poor for very slight white or screechy sounds but any bump or click comes on my radar instantly and I can usually identify it because I practice it well.

I've had it ever since I went deaf in my left ear at 11. It's always there but I hardly notice it.
