No, but someone I know gets them.
Isn't a migraine just another name for a headache?

Unfortunantly migraines run in my family. My maternal great-great grandma, & my great grandma used to have really bad migraines. The curse skipped my grandma, was passed on to my mom and myself, plus my brothers daughter too. I hope my sisters' daughter doesn't get them. For my bros' daughter, she was struck with the migraine curse from both her mom AND dads' sides.

I got my first migraine at 11, and had my most recent one 5 days ago. I don't get them as often as some sufferers do, but this month I've had 2 migraines, each lasting 3 days. That's one reason I don't like summer, I'm far more prone to migraines in the summer heat than any other time of year. Oh well...que sera sera!

I get blurred vision(I have 20/20 without a migraine), flashing lights where I now have a habit of asking people close to me if they see it- if not and that's 95% of the time, I know I'm getting a bad migraine. I also get nausea from them bad enough I keep altoids and Phenergan around and have been prescribed it just for that. If I don't lie down with constant ice for the really bad migraines, I will black out. It's happened 2xs. I eventually realized the feelings I had before blacking out were related to the migraines, so I know not to drive or to just pull over when it starts. I have extremely sensitivity to light and small noises during and before migraines.

I asked about topomax because it's known to at times cause pain by the eyes and I believe they say it's not reversible after damage is done- I could be wrong though. Did they see anything on your pituitary light up on any mri? It's common for people to have tiny masses/cysts and sometimes they can hemmorage and cause pain there too. Sometimes a tiny cyst can put pressure on your eyes and cause pain too. An eye surgeon can usually tell when doing an exam whether there's pressure from that though.
Feel free to message me too if you ever have any questions, I know it's very difficult to deal with. I've seen so many specialists and tried everything.

Arrow, there are medicines like Imitrex, that if taken at the first sign of an impending migraine, that can shorten the duration of a migraine. However, I don't always get warnings that a migraine is imminent, sometimes they happen quiet unexpectedly,

My course of action is to either boil bay leaves, and make a pain-relieving tea, thensmoke a bowl or two of herb, put a dark cloth over my eyes, and try to spend as much of the migraine unconscious as possible. Or, if I don't have bay leaves, I'll take Advil Migraine, and do the rest the same.

Melly, yes, I've had several MRIs, and at least I know I have a brain, LOL!! And I've tried topomax, but it seems it works best (or any other migraine meds), when I have an aura and know I'm gonna get one. But I don't get auras nearly as often as I used to when I was in my teens and early 20s, so I usually just try to stay unconscious as long as I can. My aura is the sound of a stick breaking inside my head. Some say they smell things, others taste things...do you get auras?
Yeah, that's not much of an option when you get them 3 times or more a week. None of the preventives help, so i told the neurologist I would deal with it myself. They were not happy with my medical history, but it's not like they were doing anything but harming me. They had me on 13 meds at one time. I was like no. I'm too young for that.

i used to, but then i found out that is was my kidney disease progressing... long story short, my kidney disease messed up my circulatory system and i was put on beta blockers. no migraines or a single headache in about 5 1/2 years now

They started after a car accident in 2000. Never remember having a headache before that. They got even worse after the last accident in 2007. I think I've tried everything.
Mine is related to 2 different things. But mine are worse than most people. I'm not allowed to take triptans. Which only n leaves controlled substances. Not a very good option.

I hit my head both times, but the last I was knocked unconscious. I have a genetic thing that tends to bring the migraines on once there's some kind of head trauma. The neuro told me he felt I had post concussional syndrome from both. I also have trigeminal neuralgia and tmj which all set each other off. Then add a hemmorage by the pituitary and you can see why they never end. Where is the majority of your pain located @Peanut?

Callme, Arrow, Have ya'll ever tried bay leaf tea? I use it, and it works well for me, better than most meds I've tried.

1000mg Tylenol combined with 800mg of Motrin will sometimes take the edge off for me along with constant ice. Nothing else helped.
I've had that too. The first week is so painful. They give me 30+ injections all over the head and neck. And while the botox is starting to work, it's the worst pain.

Did you have a concussion, or perhaps a percussive head injury? I know that it's not uncommon for concussive and percussive injuries can lead to migraines...and also, whiplash injuries.

I think it is B12 shots my wife uses. it has worked wonders for her, look into it to be sure, I'm positive it is a B vitamin of some kind, not sure if it is when you start to feel one coming on or a once a month type thing.. just a shot in the thigh and it is amazing how well it has helped her.
I've never tried it. I know not much of anything else works. I've tried chamomile and some others.
Mon Cherie, they tried everything to get rid of mine. They said I'm just one of the unluckiest patients ever lol
PeanutsauntieP1982 · 41-45, F
Melly, how long've you been getting them? Mine-roughly 2/3 of my life.
arrowcreek82 · 41-45, M

Callme, I hate that too. One time I got a migraine at work, outta the blue, so I asked my then manager if I could go home. The little ignorant 17 year old said, "When I see you getting a headache, I'll let you go home." I widened my eyes. "You mean you can see in to my head and tell when I'm getting a MIGRAINE, not a headache!?" (Very sarcastically of course.) He glared at me and said he should write me up for insubordination. (I think he tried to use a big word to impress me, LOL). I told him to Google "difference between migraines and headaches," then that I was leaving and I hoped he had a "lovely rest of his shift", (******* didn't get the sarcasm the second time!)
I assume mine is from my father's family. My mom doesn't get them. But me and my 3 daughters get them really bad.
arrowcreek82 · 41-45, M

PeanutsauntieP1982 · 41-45, F
Melly, that totally *****! My pain is usually around my eyes, like they're gonna pop out!
arrowcreek82 · 41-45, M
I know staydol works but it's only through a neurologist
MellyMel22 · F
Have you had an mri? Or been on topomax?
MellyMel22 · F

I heard botox lol
MellyMel22 · F
@OKWTF2 I get B-12 shots every 3 weeks. They help with my neuralgia, but not the migraines. That's great if it works for her :)

I only had a migraine after a seizure, then it was the totally debilitating migraine from hell.
*mentally punches whoever said isn't it just another name for a headache*
I hate people like that! And it's the dumbest things ever that can trigger them! People have no idea what that's like.
