I have never been died coverage over pre-existing conditions. It's all BS. The key has always been, as long as you keep being insured, the preexisting issue isn't an issue at all. But people would cancel coverage to save money, then get insurance when they get sick expecting the insurance company to pay.

This is a BS post from a socialist. The US does NOT want single payer.
@carpediem It’s not necessarily about single payer.

There have been proposals to allow companies to deny preexisting conditions. For market reasons. To allow companies to reduce costs, increase profits, and reduce premiums for their customers. And to theoretically allow for competition. Again, another market reason. To give the incentive for new markets to open where other vendors can provide services to people with these preexisting conditions.

@CopperCicada I don't believe that. Proposals are one thing, but companies have not, in my experience, denied an existing condition as long as your health insurance has been in full force and effect, even if you change your insurance company. Every time I have heard of a pre-existing condition not being covered is from a lapse in coverage. And that makes sense.

In my state, they limit the numbers of companies allowed to sell health insurance. Stupid. More competition is better than limited. If there's a market and there is....you don't need to offer "proposals" to promote competition. The competitors will be lining up. Just look at auto insurance.

I've had a number of employees over the years and not a single one ever experienced the pre-existing situation except for one time. And that person didn't have health insurance for 3 years prior to coming into my employment. They has an actual pre-existing condition. Interestingly enough, after 6 months on the plan they were covered.
@carpediem No. Companies have not denied coverage for preexisting conditions. Legally they can not.

@CopperCicada Even prior to Obamacare as long as you had no insurance lapses, you were always covered. Even if a new company.

@carpediem Millions of people work as contractors and work for employment agencies. They very commonly get NO health coverage from their employer. And many companies do not want to hire people over age 50, so those people must do contract work. I had no healthcare coverage from 2007 until Obama Care started in 2016. I still have no dental or vision coverage.

@badminton I'm independent and made sure I had health insurance. You could easily buy through trade associations, and more. So I don't buy the argument. There always has been health insurance for people to purchase. And it was dramatically less expensive prior to Obama care. My insurance doubled after O'care and my deductible more than doubled. And with my wife having some issues, I'd routinely spend $30k plus per year between insurance and deductible after O'care.

If you didn't see the value of having health insurance, then that's on you. I did and ound a way to pay. I get it if you couldn't afford it. I felt that way AFTER O'care. It hurt my personal finances and my company because I didn't pass the $$ on to my employees.

I've never had dental or vision. I pay as I go.
