..then WHY was that car released to an auction site for disposal if you did enough research, which led you to believe it was one of those illusive 'good ones' that nobody else but you knew about?

Any car, boat or truck that ends up in an auction either has something wrong with it that cannot be fixed cheaply, OR it was a leased vehicle or a cop car that had the crap driven out of it throughout it's service life.. OR the vehicle was 8 years old or older, making it no longer marketable on a used car lot, regardless of it's mileage.

That is correct. That was my point. Any car in an auction is there for a very specific reason.
