The UK's socialised healthcare and welfare

Many brits like to flex against Americans, talking about how great it is that they have an NHS and all these handouts.

But then among themselves, they complain about the endless queues for the most basic of healthcare procedures, and the fact that every other person on welfare doesn't actually need it but treats going onto it like a lifestyle choice - some people want to be a teacher/doctor, some people are happy on a small welfare check to spend on drugs.

Ah yeah the old playbook.

1. Take a useful public service
2. Repeatedly sabotage and cut it over the years
3. Wait for people to start complaining
4. Go "I HAVE AN IDEA"
5. Profit

@TheEmperor Yeah you're at point 3. It's an ideological playbook for governments which would prefer to see public services replaced with private ones.

@TheEmperor I know man. What I'm saying is your government has a playbook and you're falling for it.

@TheEmperor My argument is that public health care works, is massively popular with anyone who has it, and that private healthcare is terrible and unpopular and also way way way more expensive per person.

However, there are interests that would love to privatize health care because they can make money, and those interests influence governments.

So governments slowly cut away at the NHS or whatever, and over time service degrades until people start talking about how public healthcare as a -concept- doesn't work, rather than their healthcare system has been sabotaged.

The UK Tories did exactly this before they privatised British Rail. It's now happening in the NHS, in addition to incremental stealth privatisation

@Burnley123 Right. This happens all the time in Canada.

@TheEmperor Because corporations want to make profits and if you can make money out of something then that is good for them. They lobby politicians to privatise things and suddenly there is a new 'market' to make money out of when non existed before.

@CountScrofula Right on indeed. The conservative party have been cutting funding more and more over the last decade whilst using it as an excuse to slowly and covertly privative it, which they have been doing.
