There Can Be No ‘Amnesty’ On Lockdowns Without A Reckoning

Letting people off the hook isn’t amnesty. Amnesty requires an admission of guilt and a commitment to repairing the wrongs done.

Brown University economics professor Emily Oster appeared this week in The Atlantic to petition for a “pandemic amnesty.” As the evidence gets harder to bury that the ruling class’s responses to Covid were, as some of us predicted in March 2020, worse than the disease, Oster wants to deflect rising public acrimony over these devastating leadership failures.

“In the face of so much uncertainty, getting something right had a hefty element of luck. And, similarly, getting something wrong wasn’t a moral failing. Treating pandemic choices as a scorecard on which some people racked up more points than others is preventing us from moving forward,” she writes. “We have to put these fights aside and declare a pandemic amnesty.”

She concludes her article, “Let’s acknowledge that we made complicated choices in the face of deep uncertainty, and then try to work together to build back and move forward.”

Yet it’s simply not true there wasn’t enough information for leaders to make prudent decisions back in January to April 2020. Indeed, they were certain enough about their patently cruel policies that included leaving the elderly alone to die, requiring women to give birth utterly alone except for masked strangers, and forbidding families from holding funerals.

Oster is not actually advocating for amnesty, but for a complete lack of responsibility-taking and accountability. That will make our nation’s future worse, less able to address the problems lockdowns created. There is no such thing as “moving forward” from mass civil rights abuses until their root causes have been discerned and steps taken to provide recompense and prevent repeat abuse in the future.

They abused everyone globally. It's time for their comeuppance.

My theory on this is that people are slowly realizing the Covid vaccines were not what was promised, regardless of what you believe that means, and I think they are trying to get in front of the issue and cover it up and move on.

You see the Senate published a report on the origins of Covid?

https://www.help.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/report_an_analysis_of_the_origins_of_covid-19_102722.pdf

There’s evidence of various safety breaches at the lab. But there was specifically one biosafety incident at that Wuhan lab in November 2019, and that mysterious incident was especially unusual and dire. China also started developing a vaccine a full month before the U.S. did, leading one to think maybe they had a bit of a head start. The Senate report’s conclusion: “Based on the analysis of the publicly available information, it appears reasonable to conclude that the COVID-19 pandemic was, more likely than not, the result of a research-related incident.”

The arrogance and gall of these people never ceases to amaze me. They will throw someone in jail for using the "wrong pronouns", but we are just supposed to forget all about the hateful abuse, people actually wishing death on the "unvaxxed", or being barred from businesses, even denied medical care? We are expected to pretend no one lost their jobs, their businesses, family, friends? What about the suffering of people who lost loved ones, who couldn't be with them? And to add insult to injury, they couldn't even have a proper funeral? I don't think so. People are entitled to their opinion about the shots, but the ones who inflicted all those things on others are crazy if they think we will forget. 😠

Get a lighter….
It goes beyond asking for amnesty. They vilified anyone with a different viewpoint. And now they realize the torch and pitchfork masses are rising.

I don’t know how she can say this considering we still hear the fear mongering “medical and political experts” spew out that there is more Covid coming, more variants coming, more boosters need to be perfected and given.
Were and are “choices” complicated when, if you did not get vaccinated, you were fired? I wonder was she threatened, her tenure threatened along with her peers at Brown if she/ any of them opposed such mandates?
She’s a day late, a dollar short, but does not want to deal with the reality of those who got shafted; and she has the temerity to propose such nonsense. I guess at 42 I wasn’t very smart either.
No mercy… NO MERCY
