It's like COVID-19 developed from Windows 95 into Windows 11 and we're still trying to run the same software on it. You can only get away without updates for so long. The more modern the operating system, the more glitchy old programs will become and eventually break completely.

Home tests already are almost useless to detect Omicron, vaccines are significantly less effective and we hardly know anything about preventing an infection from causing long COVID. Updates tests, vaccines and treatments are very much necessary.
