@QuixoticSoul Clearly, anyone who doesn't tow the party line, for you, is a deranged simpleton. Fair point.

@WalterF It's "toe". Toe the party line.

And the vast majority of people who "do their own research" are just that.

@QuixoticSoul You're quite right. Thank you.

But I am interested to see a slight concession.

Background: people who do their own research - could we include, for example, those who check Tripadvisor reviews before deciding on a hotel? Or those who see if they can get a better price than Amazon offers for an item? Or those who don't just go to the nearest car dealer and buy the car they take a fancy to, rather than compare models and prices elsewhere? Such people "do their own research." Apparently, this attitude is problematic for you. I don't really see why it should be.

But anyway: it's good to see that you consider that only the "vast majority" of these people are (choose your term of abuse)

This means, I assume, that there are some -if only a tiny minority - intelligent, constructive, solution-seeking people among those (naive idiots) who "do their own research."

How do you distinguish between the "vast majority", who should be cancelled, shouted down and silenced, and the others? What are your criteria? And how do you react to those doing their own research who are outide that "vast majority?"
