The strain of covid has mutated and is more contagious? What?

This is incredibly frustrating

they want to scare you

@revenant So you disbelieve that it has mutated and that it is responsible for the rise in numbers? You disbelieve even though it is established fact that viruses do mutate?

That's if you believe the testing system@Adaydreambeliever

@Platinum platty I hadn't figured you for a conspiracy theorist! There's no hype here.. they are not saying this strain is more deadly, just more infectious.. so on balance of probabilities they have no reason to try to scare anyone do they! The fact is the numbers are rising.. and since the testing system involves scientific laboratories and qualified staff, if they say they are seeing SOME results that show a different strain then personally, I a common pleb with no medical qualifications am not in a position to argue with them! It's just science platy.. if they are finding a new strain then they are.. and yes, testing would pick that up.. as it's designed to do.. And since we KNOW that viruses are proven to mutate and have done since life began, it would be pretty naïve to think that there weren't going to inevitably be mutations..
You know the flu viruses, plural mutate and so a different vaccine is needed every year? That's not inflammatory or conjecture, it's accepted fact.. so .. it makes sense that this virus would do the same.. and has

There's consensus too that other countries have found mutations too.. so unless one believes they are all lying then it makes sense to accept that there are mutations

@Adaydreambeliever viruses go on there own in time Spanish flu was miles worse than this and it went.you must remember66 million in the UK don't have it.

@Platinum lol Platty I don't have to remember anything cos I didn't say I was a) scared or b) am unaware that a lot of people don't have it! I don't believe I have had it.. but at the same time.. I can't know that, I hope I have had it and was fine but I dont know.. and that's a valid point.. none of us know how many don't have it! Mostly we don't test people who think they don't have it do we!

Some viruses go on their own, some become milder, some stay around and mutate - we cannot definitively say they all go on their own..

I think that while Spanish flu trips off many people's tongues, we do have to remember we are not comparing apples to apples..because for a start, we live in very different times, we have way more advanced medical interventions now.. Most people back then would have simply died, no treatment.. few would have got to hospital... and if they did there would be little to offer them... no antivirals, no antibiotics, (not that that would help) respirators, poorer hygiene, poorer living conditions etc etc.. and no masks no steroids... no nothing really.. Were the people back then facing covid it's likely the same results as Spanish flu would be seen

@Platinum hmm platty....... that's not factually correct that the last ones went on their own... a fair few of them are still around Ebola is.. I think Swine flu is... so I am not sure about that.. I could look it up but it's my bed time and you know I turn into a pumpkin after midnight :P goodnight.. have a lovely rest of the evening
