So what did you do for your birthday this year? Did Covid19 affect your plans?

@Stereoguy I was raised birthdays are for children; I get more joy helping my babies celebrate theirs. I still love to call my sons, and sing happy birthday to them, and they're adults now.

@SW-User My son has been trying to train me to expect no gifts, perhaps a phone call at most...but I am untrainable in that regard. I was always taught to expect LOADS of presents, and a cake, and some sort of celebration...that's what my mother's side of the family DID.

IMO, only people who want to suck all the joy out of life make so little effort.

@4meAndyou it was just never a big deal for me as an adult. I myself find it fun, because it's literally [i]our[/i] day..so as I said, I celebrate others.

@SW-User We were so different on my mother's side of the family. I still remember my grandfather's 80th birthday and the cake with 80 candles!!! 🤣 SO many people were there, and there were so many presents.

@SW-User I guess most people would think it was all pretty silly. We had traditions, though...the cake and the candles for everyone, even adults...and BIRTHDAY SPANKINGS!!! One whack for each year of life! 🤣 The presents usually made up for the spankings...🤣

@Stereoguy Nope.My grandfather always used to spank us on our birthdays...but not the sort you are picturing. We would just stand there and he would whack us on the rear, with and especially hard one for good luck. If we had been especially annoying during the year, it was his way of getting us back...🤣

@Platinum It was a family tradition. In fact, I even asked my Aunt, who is quite elderly now, if she had gotten her birthday spankings...🤣. She sounded very surprised, and said noooo....so it may have been a tradition reserved for ornery grandkids...🤣
