I Hate Cancer

My mother has had a cyst growing somewhere around/on her ovaries for years. Her doctor told her it was very small at the time and was benign and didn't need it removed or treated. Fast forward to today, my mom has done nothing but vomit and lay in bed with severe pain in her lower abdomen. She has been very gassy and using the be bathroom a lot. When it got to the point where she nearly passed out, she went to the ER. The doctors found that the cyst had fluid in it and had grown to 4 inches wide, bigger than any of them had seen before. She will need surgery and will need to get checked for cancer. My question is, do you think she has cancer? I'm very worried about my mother.

I cant answer your question but I'm really sorry to hear that. Something similar happened with my mum. She had a supposedly benign cyst in her ovaries that wouldn't be a problem. One year later and she barely had the strength to walk all because of that "benign" cyst. Thankfully it wasn't cancer and it was removed and she quickly returned to her normal self. I'll be praying the same outcome for your mum.

Let's hope she doesn't...I hope she gets better after the surgery :)

my sister just had one removed. is your mom pre or post-menopausal? they are more likely to be malignant if they are post-menopausal. what kind of cyst is it? is it a dermoid?

She is post-menopausal. And I'm not quite sure what type or cyst.

@justmee: hang in there. there's no sense in worry until you know for sure that you have something to worry about.

The fact that it has filled with fluid and grown doesn't indicate cancer. If it was actually benign in the beginning it could very well still be. I hope it works out and I know you will worry, that is normal. Good luck to you and your family.
