Cancer rates in Australians under 50 are rising at an alarming pace.

Australians aged in their 30s and 40s are experiencing unprecedented and in some cases world-leading rates of at least 10 different types of cancer — and scientists are desperate to understand why.

Between the year 2000 and 2024 — in 30–39 year olds — early onset prostate cancer increased by 500 per cent, pancreatic cancer by 200 per cent, liver cancer by 150 per cent, uterine cancer by 138 per cent and kidney cancer by 85 per cent.

@whowasthatmaskedman a hole in the ozone layer makes the air clearer?
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt No. But shows you are thinking. The fact is that there is less moisture in the air and haze due to pollution and human activity. Most of the settled land masses are in the northern hemisphere and the weather patterns do form a partial strainer around the equatorial regions😷

@whowasthatmaskedman I heard skin cancer is very popular in Oz bc of the hole in the ozone layer there.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt No... The hole is over antarctica, and has faded away with the banning of CFCs.. We used to have a major campaign to "Slip slop slap" to cover up and protect the skin. It needs to be refreshed..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman so it’s the processed foods or lack of exercise ? Meaning lifestyle .
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt 😂The processed foods and lack of exercise, toxins in the water supply (and the higher pesticides, antibiotics and hormones in the food) that are causing the reduced life span in America, not my country..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman so what’s your explanation for the alarming rise in cancer rates among younger Oz residents ? (Assuming the OP is telling the truth ). And as bad as cancer is in USA we are also all diabetic or pre diabetic .

@AthrillatheHunt This is a documentary by the ABC (Australia) program Four Corners which was broadcast last night - 7th July 2025 called Generation Cancer.
Hopefully you will be able to view it.

@AthrillatheHunt OK. Dont confuse overall cancer rates with Melanoma. Skin cancers tend to have a lifetime cumulative trigger. Exposure as a child just keeps piling on until it triggers.. Also with a large segment of the population being of Anglo origin these pool (of which I am one) who surf or play outdoor sport (which I dont) from a young age get off to a bad start..My own kids are now in their 40s. My grandkids teenagers. But no one in our family has any sign of trouble. because we protected our kids from day one.. Now I get that other cancers are showing a bump. But like i said at the start. During Covid we were about the most shut down nation. And that meant that a lot of people didnt go for a lot of tests for a couple of years. This might well be a statistically spped bump as a lot more tests are being caught up in and finding a backlog of things that would have normally been caught earlier..😷
