Sci Fi fans and readers of Dune by Frank Herbert: I found out this morning that I would have flunked the Gom Jabbar. :(

The IV nurse at the hospital hurt me SO badly trying to put the IV into my hand that I yelled, and cried, and made a nuisance of myself. They were heaving great sighs of disgust, and the IV nurse told me I was a grown woman and should behave that way. Of course, pain that intense and that prolonged takes all of that out of your control.

Some of the "IV Nurses" are complete hacks. If it is my daughter I make a fuss and tell them my daughter's veins are difficult and they should get the phlebotomist. They typically will at least get the one nurse on the floor or in the clinic that is good at hitting the vein the first time. Sorry you went through that. I have had a new nurse stick both my arms twice before. BTW - I am a Dune geek. The novel and the original movie anyway. Pain is the mind killer young human.

@RuyLopez Yes, well, my mind definitely died this morning. And it wasn' t that the nurse didn't hit the vein the first time...it was the horrifying pain she inflicted while doing it. I still feel freaked out, when I think about it.

@4meAndyou You should not let her touch you again. Ask for someone else if you ever come across that sadistic witch again. It should not hurt that bad. The young nurse that tortured me actually use the needle while in my arm like a search tool. I looked like a heroine addict for 10 days or so.

@RuyLopez I will remember her. She was quite large.
