Of course it is a co-incidence... but in a democracy those who are influenced unduly by "the media" are those who allow themselves so to be. Anyway, which "media" - there are many media in several basic forms.
Rather, I think such people are the sort who read or listen to only those opinions that reinforce their own, and ignore any opinions, let alone facts otherwise. They probably also find it hard to spot opinions from facts, or to see where the material is correct itself, but biased, usually by not presenting the opposite side or by giving statistics in a misleading way.
