Covid19- IHU!

France detects new COVID-19 variant 'IHU', more infectious than Omicron: All we know about it
The new variant — B.1.640.2 — which has been detected in 12 patients near Marseille, contains 46 mutations, making it more resistant to vaccines and infectious.

Even as the world battles the uptick in COVID-19 cases owing to the Omicron variant, scientists in France have found another variant.

The discovery of the variant, dubbed B.1.640.2, was announced in a paper posted on medRxiv.

Called IHU, as of now, the strain was discovered by academics based at the IHU Mediterranee Infection on 10 December.

Here’s what we know so far of this new COVID-19 variant:

• Researchers say that it contains 46 mutations — even more than Omicron — which makes it more resistant to vaccines and infectious.
• Some 12 cases have been spotted so far near Marseille, with the first linked to travel to the African country Cameroon.
• Tests show the strain carries the N501Y mutation — first seen on the Alpha variant — that experts believe can make it more transmissible
• According to the scientists, it also carries the E484K mutation, which could mean that the IHU variant will be more resistant to vaccines.
• It is yet to be spotted in other countries or labelled a variant under investigation by the World Health Organization.

Currently, Omicron is the dominant coronavirus variant in France, joining other European countries like the United Kingdom and Portugal with surging case numbers over the past few days.

France's public health agency had recently said that "62.4 percent of tests showed a profile compatible with the Omicron variant".

The Omicron variant of coronavirus has stoked average daily confirmed cases to more than 160,000 per day over the past week, with peaks above 200,000.

“The tidal wave has indeed arrived, it’s enormous, but we will not give in to panic,” Health Minister Olivier Veran was quoted as telling Parliament.

In an attempt to battle this surge, French MPs have proposed legislation that would require most people to be vaccinated against Covid-19 to enter public spaces such as bars, restaurants and long-distance public transport.

It is expected to come into force on 15 January after passing through the upper house Senate.

News agency AFP reported that the bill’s headline measure is aimed at getting France’s remaining five million unvaccinated people over 12 to accept a shot.

At present a health pass is required to access numerous everyday venues including bars, cafés, restaurants, cinemas, theatres, gyms, leisure centres and long distance train travel – but a recent negative test is accepted for the health pass.

The bill aims to replace the health pass with a vaccine pass – which would only allow people who are fully vaccinated to gain access to those venues.

I don't understand why vaccine passports are needed if they don't protect anyone from the continuing new variants. It just seems like a push to get everyone vaccinated. It was all about vaccinating the old or those with underlying health conditions at first. Now it's everyone of all age groups. It just seems all a little dodgy to me personally.

@Elessar What's the stats on age groups. Underlying health conditions etc ?
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Perry1968 hey just because we dont care about old and sick people in America dying of covid doesn't mean other countries don't. hence the passports
Perry1968 · M
@NoahB Hey. I care about old people. I also care that passports are BS for the young and or healthy as only the old and vulnerable were at risk initially. Now it's everyone.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Perry1968 The young and healthy still experience long-covid (aka long-term or potentially life-term disabilities, with a 5x incidence than polio's disabilities, which were enough to justify mass vaccination already).

Besides, it doesn't matter, the unvaxxed are enough to make healthcare systems collapse if enough of them happen to get infected simultaneously. And when some young healthy invincible person happen to need a bed for whatever reason (think of a car crash, or a simple appendicitis), they'll be f*cked too
Perry1968 · M
@Elessar The system here is collapsing has zero to do with the unvaxxed. There are more people with covid that have been suckered. Unless you believe the narrative being pushed. Everyone seems to be experts on the subject these days and it's a choice thing. If being unvaxxed kills a person then they have taken that choice. The system here is overloaded as ambulance drivers have to wait with you until you are admitted into A and E here. The doctors surgeries empty and if you watch a doctor with more experience than you and I will ever have telling the health minister here he refuses the vaccination s due to the fact you'd have to Vax people in a monthly basis to keep them safe then you ll realise it's not all it's been made out to be. Anyway like you I'm no expert. I'll make my choice. You make yours. Good luck 🙂👍

@Perry1968 the passports are for the young and healthy to not infect the old and sick. Vaccine dramatically reduces the window of being contagious with covid. thus the passports minimize the odds of a young and healthy person being contagious. ergo the old and sick are protected
Perry1968 · M
@NoahB MOst people I know that have had it have been vaxxed though. Kind of strange to me because before vaccinations I knew absolutely no one with it. Nor did most others I know. But hey it's a choice thing. I'll be respectful and wear masks etc but won't get vaxxed.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Perry1968 dont really care about your anecdotal story tbh. I work in healthcare and consistently the stats that come from our hospitals are the unvaxxed catch it and are severely ill at dramatically higher rates
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Perry1968 tbf i support the decision to be vaccinated or not to be vaccinated. But I wont fault a country for making policies to protect its population from this disease. Primarily because in America we have the highest sick rate and death rates so we're clearly doing a bad job
Perry1968 · M
@NoahB 🙂👍

@Perry1968 80% of the hospital beds are occupied by novaxxers here. Take away that 80% and the healthcare system would be faring dramatically better. Mathematic isn't an opinion, nor a choice.

Again:

Oh, this was made by the top experts in my country. ISS is the equivalent of the CDC for us, and if they say that novaxxers are the problem, novaxxers are the problem.
Perry1968 · M
@Elessar It said 80 percent of covid patients were unvaccinated in my city. But 80 percent of what? 10? 10.000? Yet everyone I know who has had it has been vaxxed. I think if it was sooo bad the downing Street would most definitely not have had multiple get togethers whilst everyone else was locked down. Also a doctor (a expert in comparison to u and I and the UK health minister basically told him it was a bit of a farse. That's on YouTube under doctor tells UK health minister he won't have the jab. He's far from alone. Lots of health workers nurses doctors surgeon s etc don't want it. Just ask yourself. why?
NoahB · 26-30, M
You should also ask yourself ‘why’?
@Perry1968
Perry1968 · M
@NoahB You should ask yourself why you believe everything you read. Go on to any mainstream news channel and read through the comments. They seem 98 percent negative regarding being a dartboard. This was all about people over 70 at first and those with underlying health issues. Now healthy people Ur age are taking the jab. The jabbed are still getting covid so it seems it reeeally working well aye. Lol
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Perry1968 we already showed you the hospitalization comparison
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Perry1968 also I got the jab because I wanted to minimize the chances of me giving it to my mom not because I thought Covid would kill me
Perry1968 · M
@NoahB You got 2 accounts? Well either way you stay on Ur moral highground. I chose not to be jabbed. That was my choice 😜😘
InHeaven · F
I know right@Perry1968 with 💉 you can still get it and spread it but if you obey, you get the “health” passport and get to chill 😁
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Perry1968 moral high ground? Bro these are facts lol
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Perry1968 lmao, I was at work, not worth getting fired for replying to your nonsense tbh
Perry1968 · M
@Elessar Nor yours tbh. You are a squirt with a narrow mind and 2 accounts lol
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Perry1968 >two people disagree with me.

“I’m clearly the victim of an online conspiracy” lol
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Perry1968 lmao, we're literally from different continents but ok
Perry1968 · M
@NoahB @Elessar Inject eachother with another jab please ffs. Preferably a sedative.
