A new variant B.1.1.529, Omicron, more contagious from Africa has been detected today and EU is quarantining travelers from there.

helenS · 36-40, F
Numbers are exploding in Europe, even in technologically advanced countries such as France or Germany. Not long, and there will be no vacancies in ICUs anymore. Doctors will have to selects those who will be provided with a ventilator, and the others will most likely die. 😢
BE SAFE === GET VACCINATED === STAY AT HOME
@Carazaa I think you need to stop being anxious.. if you want to talk about me, I can about you.

@thewindupbirdchronicles Only 6% are vaccinated in Africa as a whole.

Better to act quickly rather than just leave it until to late . Like what has happened alot before the spread rapidly took over
Carazaa · F
@Kim1975 I agree 👍

A friend of mine adopted a kid from China,they went back to visit the mother in Wuhan..the travel agent said it was ok but the mother knew better..they flew through customs in the U.S.,nary a question...this variant will get in
bookerdana · M
@Carazaa they can work the new spike protein into a new vaccine fairly quickly,need a month at most to see if it affords protection

@bookerdana Why would customs question someone flying in from Wuhan? If you have been paying attention, you would know that at this point in time, Wuhan is one of the safest spots on planet earth, as far as COVID goes. The original strain was released in Wuhan, but the Chinese have been extremely aggressive in fighting the original strain and all the variants. It is much more dangerous for Chinese customs to allow United States visitors to Wuhan now than it would be for US customs to allow visitors from Wuhan to the United States. Note I'm talking about right now, November of 2021.

@mikeylyksit By the time she reached the States the news had broken;she was baffled she wasn''t stopped

This thing is just never going to end.
Carazaa · F
@SubstantialKick Hopefully it will 🙂
@SubstantialKick It never ends, until we accept it's endemic and change the end goal. The new end goal seems to ridicule people.
I don't know. Yes, it has the largest amounts of variations, but that itself means nothing. Makes it more unknown, and for now that is all that can be seen?
Carazaa · F
@thewindupbirdchronicles This has nothing to do with any perspective I am just reporting a fact that UK and some other countries are closing their borders before they know more about this variant.
@Carazaa Yes, perspective matters and if you don't see that I don't know what to tell you. Politics are not a good measure of impact of an illness
Carazaa · F
Yes we know. We have news too.

We just have to hope it isn’t more deadly
Carazaa · F
@comfi1 Yes hopefully.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
Still will not make me want to get Covax
Carazaa · F
@butterflybaby75 Ok be careful...
meJess · F
There is always a new variant and it’s always more contagious than all the previous ones. But we never get any information on how it affects people, or even if in some cases.
Carazaa · F
@meJess better to be safe than sorry!
There has been literally hundreds, if not more, in the last few months. But I'll get you spooked, media reports of one.

@msros Not sufficiently selective. The virus kills people everywhere.
