I respected my husband greatly, and I was kind to him. I listened to what he had to say, and believe it or not, I didn’t nag him. I never felt I had to, he was a very responsible person. And he listened to what I had to say without belittling my perspectives.
At no point did I see him as my boss or a father figure, and he certainly wouldn’t have wanted that kind of distance and reserve between us.
I watched my parents model their 66 year marriage as a partnership between equals, and that’s what I looked for.
