Love in a long term relationship can be like a roller coaster. Lots of big ups and downs.
If you are very lucky, and you wish to stay with the same person, as I did, for 25 years, you might eventually arrive at a place where your emotions are confined to realizing that if that person died, you would be crushed, and wanting to cook nice meals for them, and wishing to take care of them when they become ill.
However, I should point out, if your partner is continually abusive, even [i]those[/i] feelings won't survive.
