The old city where I lived tried to pull a trick on the poor and homeless there and planted bitter fruit orange trees. You really can't eat the fruit, it's that bitter.

Problem was some of the trees reverted back to normal orange trees. 🙃

That quickly stopped the planting of any trees. Even stopped the watering of the existing ones.

I found red fleshed apples at Anne Hathaways cottage once. Very tasty apples, possibly one that's almost died out.

Yum 😋 enjoy your apples. They are most likely safe to eat.

Apples with red flesh, also known as red-fleshed apples, are a striking variety known for their vibrant pink or red-colored flesh, a result of natural pigmentation. Popular examples include Hidden Rose (also known as Airlie Red Flesh or Mountain Rose), Pink Pearl, and Lucy Rose. These apples often have unique flavor profiles, sometimes described as sweet, tart, or even berry-like.
Key Characteristics of Red-Fleshed Apples:
Appearance: The flesh ranges in color from light pink to deep red, often with a marbled appearance.
Flavor: Can be sweet, tart, or have berry-like notes, depending on the variety.
Texture: May be firm, crisp, or soften with storage.
Natural Pigmentation: The red color is due to anthocyanins, pigments that are also found in other red fruits and vegetables.
Varieties: Airlie Red Flesh (also known as Hidden Rose or Mountain Rose), Pink Pearl, Lucy Rose, and others.
Growing: Red-fleshed apples often require cross-pollination with other apple varieties for successful fruit production.
Popular Red-Fleshed Apple Varieties:
Hidden Rose/Airlie Red Flesh/Mountain Rose: Known for their sweet, aromatic flavor with hints of berry and citrus.
Pink Pearl: Features bright pink flesh and pink apple blossoms.
Lucy Rose: Sweet, crisp, and has a berry-like flavor.
Pink Sparkle: Another variety with pink or red flesh.
Redfield: An unusual apple/crab-apple cross with red flesh.
Almata: Red-fleshed with an acidic flavor.
