Low carb worked for my diabetes 2

I am now going off insulin and going to start taking oral medications.

It wasn't always easy to stick with as I love all the carby things like cereal, sweets, potatoes, rice , pasta, beans, and homemade bread.

I had to make up my mind that the substitutes I came up with are not usually going to taste like the real thing, but some of them were good.
And some are really awful.
It's a trial and error.

I did not go keto, I still eat all fruits and all vegetables, even though a strict keto dieter would not eat certain ones.
And I do have low carb toast for breakfast and an occasional low-carb wrap.( They contain some wheat which people doing keto don't consume)

I don't exercise much to be honest, but I try to do 10 minutes in the morning and then 10 minutes in the evening before I go to bed.
I have watched in amazement as my sugar levels actually went down after exercising ,sounds fake, but it really does help.

I've had some silly advice given to me too like drink lemon water or eat cinnamon and these may help keep levels at a good place ,the science is still out on that, they don't hurt, but they're not going to significantly lower a high blood sugar.

To get fiber I use chia seeds in my water and take before I eat.
Chia seeds have a lot of health benefits- are they helping the sugar levels ?
To be honest I don't know, but they're not hurting it.

I know I'll never do this 100% perfect, either.
I'm starting to not be so devastated when I make a mistake or have to go investigate what might have happened to make my sugar so high.
Sometimes , I have to eat what I can find and pick out the best that is available.
Life is usually a balance of things.

Anyway ,I'm getting used to this way of eating and I don't really mind it.
I could not have said that a year ago

If you want some filling snacks try pistachios good complete protein and fiber. Very low glycemic index also.

@Justmeraeagain you can add as much as you want to your diet as well as baked shelled pumpkin seeds if you like them too

@Gibbon not a big fan of pumpkin seeds- I like sunflower seeds

@Justmeraeagain sunflower seeds have more fiber but pumpkin seeds have more protein. They are both excellent for blood sugar control

it's nice when people can find natural based remedies vs prescription meds.. good on you ☺
Good job ! This is wonderful, you’ve really stayed on top of this. I remember when you were first diagnosed.

My brother has been living with me. When he arrived he was very sick, was diagnosed with T2 in February and on insulin. I began cooking for him, monitoring his insulin, showing him how to test and chart his glucose numbers.

He also had nurses coming to care for him several times a week. I’m diabetic too, but so far not insulin dependent; I’ve been managing my numbers and after a couple of months my brother doesn’t need as much insulin, according to his doctor.

@bijouxbroussard That is great. You are a good sister. ❤

Also pain can make sugars go higher, and stress. My sister can take a hot shower and it will go up..
Our friend says she just gets out of bed, eating nothing, and it will go up by itself within a half hour. It is a fickle thing 😟 But you are doing awesome!!! I am pre diabetes and I've gained ten pounds back from twenty pounds o lost a year ago. Ugh. I need to have less per meal overall.

@Baybreeze I have morning high blood sugars too they're not as high as they used to be but there is something called the dawn phenomenon which many people have.
