High (bad) cholesterol is because of chronic inflammation in your body. Poor diet, sleep, exercise routine all contribute to it. Fried food, sugars of all kind even when marked healthy (like fruit juices) contribute to it.
Eat nutritious foods, especially those with anti oxidants, add omega 3, cinnamon, turmeric, greens etc. Cut out on non nutritious foods. This on its own will go a long way.
Doctors will most likely prescribe Statins without going the lifestyle change route. Bad idea, in my opinion.
