I haven't had sardines in decades, I loved to pan fry them and eat them on toast, grossing my mother and both of my older brothers out 😁

@NativePortlander1970 A double benefit: good food and the satisfaction of grossing someone out!

@NativePortlander1970 Have you ever tried fried fresh sardines…so good.
@cherokeepatti On the west coast we have something called grunions, they are so good during a run, we have them in Oregon and Washington, as well as California.

@NativePortlander1970 What do those taste like?
@cherokeepatti Exactly the same as sardines, they are a species of them.

@NativePortlander1970 When I was in Morocco you could get a kilo of fresh sardines for a little over a dollar at the open air fish markets. The men would slit each one open and gut them and cut off the heads. Take them and fill them with a spicy mixture called Chermoula…a mix of several types of spices, salt, pepper, coriander, ginger, chopped cilantro and vinegar or fresh lemon juice and stuff each one with it and then fry them in a little olive oil. They were surprisingly good and I started craving them, probably the Omega-3’s were making me feel good and more energetic.
@cherokeepatti Leave out the cilantro and I'll eat them :)

@NativePortlander1970 Imagine being able to buy a kilo of sardines for that little money, having them cleaned for you and then eating them to your heart’s content.
@cherokeepatti I'd be on cloud nine
