Were you aware?

2000 calories is the appropriate limit for an average to short woman, around 30, not pregnant, and with limited activity day-to-day. It was determined to be 2000 primarily because the FDA was pressured by their research base, men and women that GROSSLY underestimated how many calories they consumed. You should look up calculators (try at least two to three, they're all close) to determine how much you should consume to maintain your weight, build mass, or lose weight.

BONUS: the calories you consume may not be fully processed. If you were to eat something with 100 calories, you may only get 90. Why? Tons of factors, from different parts of your personal digestive track (people with, say, IBS or Crohn's don't digest properly) to your stress level. More stress = poorer digestion, but also increased fat storage.

I believe in the see food diet. I see it and eat it. 😊

@Degbeme i swear... if i were in charge of every boarder, this would be over by now. too many cooks in the kitchen.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@SW-User Absolutely.

i do know all of this, and i tend to eat about 1,800 cals a day, very seldom less, and every now and then more, usually do to increased activity. i don't have a scale, but every time i get weighed at the docs (4 times a year), it's the same, or within 2 lb.s either way.

@SW-User A little treat now and then is fine. The real kicker is when you have too many little treats, or eat foods with "hidden sugar".

@pattycakechamp true. i tend to eat three small meals, and one snack a day. usually meet my 3 to 5 veggies and fruits goal, and consume lots of fiber and plenty of water.

it's nice to meet someone as interested in nutrition and digestion as i am. :)
@SW-User The fact that you have stable weight is a great testament to your regimen. Thanks for sharing your way of doing it!

I eat way under that. 2000 is too much as far as I am concerned. It's amazing the amount of calories we consume if we pay attention.
pattycakechamp · 26-30, F
@Magenta Some need less, some need more. That's why there are a gajillion diet books out there. Eat healthy, and figure out what your body needs.
Magenta · F
@pattycakechamp Yes indeed. 😊
They recommend 2000 for a "limited activity" person. Yikes.
pattycakechamp · 26-30, F
@Magenta I think just like food, people tend to not quite know how much activity they really do. I guarantee some exaggerate how much they do while others underestimate. Dietary science is a very fuzzy and personal science.
helenS · 36-40, F
Similar to TexChick I consume about 1500–1700 a day. I believe I'd gain weight if I ate 2000 daily.
pattycakechamp · 26-30, F
@helenS Every body is different. I think women range from 1300-3600 necessary calories a day.
helenS · 36-40, F
@pattycakechamp Yes my sister eats significantly more than I do, without adding pounds.
TexChik · F
I eat about 30 net carbs a day , roughly 1500 calories
pattycakechamp · 26-30, F
@TexChik Yeah, then you dig into the simple carbs, complex carbs, proteins, fats, and you start to understand why nobody really knows everything about diets.
TexChik · F
@pattycakechamp oh it’s pretty well measured out . I never eat complex carbs . Proteins and fats make the bulk of my diet along with some veggies
pattycakechamp · 26-30, F
@TexChik That's the way. Healthier foods support the body better than 3000 calories worth of garbage.

It's not the same the calories you get from an apple than the ones you get from candies for example. So it's about quality and quantity.
Rokasu · 36-40, M
2k? That's like dude level calories. Aren't women supposed to eat like 1.5k or less?
pattycakechamp · 26-30, F
@Rokasu Like I mentioned, women should eat between 1300-3600, depending on weight, height, activity, and hidden factors such as internal digestion. More importantly, it has to be healthy.
Lila15 · 22-25, F
And BMI was never intended as a measure of health. It doesn't work with people who are highly muscular, or anyone who isn't northern European.
masterofyou · 70-79, M
When you are a caregiver to your partner for over 15 years there is much stress... Thanks for sharing...
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
your brain burns 20%+ of your calorie intake (assuming you actually use it)... 🤔
