New Guy is still in love with his ex wife.
They've only been divorced for a year. I had assumed it was longer. He said he still cares about her and she's "amazing". Right now the cat they had shared together is dying, and he's trying to be there for her emotionally.
I'm not mad at that. Losing a pet is hard, and clearly they got the cat when they were still married, so they both have an attachment to it.
But ultimately I think I'm seeing a couple who might not be completely over each other. I think I'm gonna bow out and give them time to heal and perhaps repair their relationship if they feel like there is something still there.
