anybody remember the dating world where you'd ask a girl to dance at a nightclub and she agrees...hoping for a date next weekend?

When I was a young teenager, about to ask a girl for a date to a dance for the first time, I asked my older teen sister for help. She told me what to say, and I wrote it down. I called, read from my script, and Judy accepted the invitation, obviously reading from notes she got from her older sister.
