Do you buy a present for someone your dating?

It's been 4 months and we're not official.
It's probably been even less time since we see each other every other week. So really 2 months.
His birthdays the 10th and in all honesty Im not seeing him until maybe the 19th of November.
Do I buy him a gift?

My mums saying to me to wrap up the unopened glenfiddich that I have in the cupboard and give him a card since I'll never drink it and he likes to drink...

That sounds like a nice gift, actually. Yes, get him a birthday gift. It's thoughtful, and might help move things along, if that's what you want.

@DunningKruger Well I don't want to buy his love.
I mean if I give him the drink it means I won't have to spend any more money, it wasn't a cheap bottle and it's been sitting there since 2016 because I stopped drinking.
£40 bottle of drink

@Mellowgirl So, it's a valuable gift, but it isn't going to cost you anything. That may well work in your favor. "Here's a fine bottle of scotch I just happened to have that I'm never going to use. So, a nice gift for your birthday, but it's not like I went out and dropped 40 pounds." Thoughtful without being overwhelming, perhaps?

@DunningKruger I wouldnt go as far as telling him I didn't buy it... Recently that's off
It I'd wrap it up.
I dunno though because he's not the kind of person that would like to drink alone...

@Mellowgirl That's an issue if you don't drink anymore. Does he have any other interests that might suggest a nice but not terribly expensive gift?

@DunningKruger hmm. He smokes... Which he's trying to quit. Yes he likes films, festivals, clubbing.
Trainers. Clothes.
Fun experiences but not heights.
