Lots of immigrants do this. We don't have a lot Indian people where I live but I always see carribean people do this lol talking to loved ones. I think it's sweet.

@Selah while driving an Uber - I don’t find it professional at all
I’ve seen other drivers doing it, too—not just Indians. I assumed they’re in contact with loved ones and as long as I’m not needing to give directions I’m not too concerned.
@TradEmily I’m paying them to get me from point A to point B safely. As long as the call isn’t interfering with their driving, I’m good.

@bijouxbroussard like I say, I think it’s rude to have a conversation in a confined space with someone else there. But maybe you do that? have an extended mobile phone call with someone else in the room?
@TradEmily No, I don’t unless I absolutely have to get something important resolved; even then I try to keep it as brief as possible. I rarely ”chat” on the phone, anyway.

I’ve encountered direct, in your face rudeness in my lifetime. So an Uber driver’s phone conversation, especially speaking quietly, as long as I’m getting safely to my destination—really doesn’t phase me.

I understood that you’re sensitive to that particular breach of etiquette. I’m just not. 🙂

@TradEmily not being funny it rather smacks on racist to single these groups out as it is illegal to use a mobile phone whilst driiving. others of our own ethnic background are as just as guilty for this same crime
TradEmily · 26-30, F
@smiler2012 no I’ve never seen a non-South Asian have a phone conversation with someone in an Uber - never
@TradEmily Perhaps you’re not expecting it from anyone else ? 🤔
TradEmily · 26-30, F
@bijouxbroussard nope it doesn’t happen in my experience
Frostcloud · F
maybe talking to their friends and fam who they love and miss very much 🙂‍↕
TradEmily · 26-30, F
@Frostcloud while working? doesn't seem polite or professional
Frostcloud · F
@TradEmily personal preference i suppose. i'd rather they talk on the phone than talk to me lmao
TradEmily · 26-30, F
@Frostcloud loool I actually agree but porque no los dos!
Horok · 31-35, M
I’ve noticed that most of them are talking to their family.

How do I know? If you speak near me, I pick it up by default. Having functioning ears makes eavesdropping unavoidable.
TradEmily · 26-30, F
@Horok yeah it's so unprofessional.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
I am in India. And they usually keep talking here too. I think of hitting their rating, but never do. After all they do what pay them to do. Deliver me safe and fast.
romell · 51-55, M
@WandererTony brother they come from poverty n are busy sorting their lives working hard till they are not endangering your lives can cut them some slack
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@romell yeah true that.
As an Indian I can confirm that I don't know
romell · 51-55, M
Multitasking is a way of life in india n phones have become to set things up,uberr drivers are also sometimes watch men delivery boys ..so could be setting next job up
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@romell i usually land in my hometown by late night flights and take Uber home. I hear them talk to their collegues about how many trips they have completed and how many more they need to get the bonus. Some tell their roommates about where to get the keys if they reach earlier. To put an extra egg and potato in the curry after boiling. They would be late due to traffic.
I cant tell them to cut the call. Its their survival.

Is it true that they somehow hold entire conversations just saying singular words? "Yeah... yeah... no... yes... maybe..."
TradEmily · 26-30, F
@SinlessOnslaught exactly this YES.... what is happening?
swirlie · 31-35
They are talking to their stock broker, cut them some slack!
