I don't get it when people say that you can't say you're not racist just because you have a black friend

I'm probably gonna get some backlash for this but I'm being sincere.

I'm unfortunate enough to be related to a racist.

And man, he is a downright a**hole to anyone who isn't white.
The dude wouldn't be caught dead being friends with someone of another race.

He also gives my cousin and her husband hell because she married a poc.
We were at a get together a few years ago and he openly mocked them, called him names, made fun of appearances, not even close to banter.

It was an awkward and cringe night 😔

The things I heard him say in private are a lot worse, I won't repeat them here.

I've broken off ties with him, but yeah...

That’s pretty easy. Not all racists actively hate. Some just have the sincere belief that their race is superior than others. One of my earliest employers back in the 70s told me how pleased she was with my work, because "usually you people are so lazy." You would never have convinced her she was a racist; after all, she’d hired me. And she thought she was paying me a compliment ! I also had a black coworker for years married to a white man who despised black people, but he thought his wife was an exception.
@bijouxbroussard Micro racisms are insidious.
@hartfire Indeed. They’re more hurtful, because they’re often hidden behind an affable exterior.
