I'm Irish and Catholic, in England we are the enemy, worst than blacks and dogs!

Treating someone poorly because they are different to you is just simply senseless! Enough said?
Graylight51-55, F
Right, and trust me, if the US could get rich or steal some resources, we'd be right there defending you.

I think the second 3 people we're gathered in the early world, relationships switched from partnerships to alliances, and with alliances come enemies.

It's the beast that lives inside man. We should all get over ancient slights, and sometimes we do, but we have a long way to go and you're right - everyone should be treated well. Except maybe the Brits. 馃嚚馃嚠

(I'm joking about the last bit. Mostly.)
MoonpennyF
Have you ever been to England?
MoonpennyF
@Shonach12 And have you come across any unpleasantness?
I don't know anyone who is anti-Irish among my friends and acquaintances but history can't be blotted out. I understand that.
Shonach1226-30, F
@Moonpenny Yes, on the streets of Birmingham
MoonpennyF
@Shonach12 Oh no, sorry to hear about that 馃槨馃槨

My gran told me once that there was a "If you're Irish, don't bother" whem it came to applying for houses, jobs, bank accounts and the like. THat seemed to have been when she was young. My impression in my time is that it's not like that anymore, but any discrimination is totally wrong. Period.

I live in England and my neighbours and and best friends are all irish catholics, i live next door to a catholic church and I've never known any hatred for any of them
Pretzel61-69, M
I understand this goes back for centuries.

the history is so sad.
Nobody has had that attitude in England since the 90s when the IRA stopped blowing kids up in Warrington etc.
@thatscottishguy yeah we don鈥檛 going around calling each other fenian cunts or hun cunts. Down here your religion doesn鈥檛 matter. You鈥檙e just a cunt for supporting the other side here 馃檭
thatscottishguy26-30, M
@SirenCalledLuce Well firstly hun isn't about religion. You should really know the background of why the word is used. Ahh so fighting with someone because they support another team is a more acceptable reason? Going abroad and attacking people for supporting another country is better? The English can preach about tolerance? It is a problem in both our countries. To ignore it is terrible.
@thatscottishguy just shush
Nwerd71441-45, M
Fuck 'em! You're just as beautiful on the inside as you are on the outside. If they can't or won't see that due to their ignorance or traditional ignorance, fuck 'em!
Wolf90M
definitely enough said!

Mind you I have both English and Irish blood in me... probably why I am always at war with myself!
LeeInTheNorthWoods70-79, F
I've visited England several times and generally have positive impressions of the English. But, I was surprised and disturbed by the many anti-Irish comments I heard. I found it most disturbing that they were so made in such a casual way, as though everyone would agree with them.
Shonach1226-30, F
@LeeInTheNorthWoods That shows something systemic in their view
LeeInTheNorthWoods70-79, F
@Shonach12 It sure does. Sad.

I love how people can say this just doesn't exist bc them and their friends don't experience it. As if they would use the same when talking about racism against black people.
Crazychick36-40, F
I live in England and we don't treat Irish or Catholics as enemies. We practically invented the phrase "live and let live".
Harriet0341-45, F
There's no Orange Order in England, unlike Scotland & NI.
thatscottishguy26-30, M
Sadly doesn't mean there's no hatred.
Harriet0341-45, F
@thatscottishguy Religion is hatred!!
AngelKrish26-30, M
True 馃憤 its senseless!
Human1000M
